- Mochi Making the Old Fashioned Way
This is mochi making the old fashioned way – a lot of hard work and pounding. In the photograph, you can see two people working the glutinous rice. One person is pounding and the other person is turning and wetting the mochi. They are working in sync with each other – good teamwork! And just as well – otherwise one of them could get hurt!
Mochi is a traditional Japanese rice cake that is made from rice and made into a paste.
This is one of my favourite sweets from mochi – it is called kusa mochi.

More recently the passion for mochi making has meant an influx different ways mochi can be used. Various companies have become quite innovative and creative with the traditional mochi.
This photograph shows a variety of mochi flavours with cream inside. By rpslee – This sounds delicious! And this variety have ice cream inside … now that sounds more seasonal! Something that can be picked up at the local conbini.
Thanks to b.iLLSeeing that mochi has become popular and a food of convenience even, the methods in making it have evolved.
