Its Tanabata and the fashion at Disney is Yukata of course! It really makes a wonderful atmosphere to see people using more traditional dress as an everyday piece of clothing. Top marks to those who mixed Japanese cultural trends with Disney trends. I have highlighted my favourites from the Tanabata festival at Disney. Kids, young girls and guys all wearing yukata around the Disneyland and Disneysea parks.
- Yukatas with Alice
I wasn’t sure how the footwear (geta) would work with the rides – but maybe its not a problem. In the background of this snap you can see a guy waiting for the parade who is dressed in a yukata.
- Yukata at Disney Sea
These two combined the yukata look well with their park passes round their necks. Excellent tanabata fashion!
- Fantastic couple in Yukata at Disney
These two were snapped from behind!
- Yukata through Disney
This one was my favourite! We were in the queue when I snapped this – it was raining and the focus decided to catch the rope! but nonetheless I love the choice of colour for this yukata – so pretty.
- Good style
- It was a bit windy but the yukata look was just perfect
The Tanabata wishes (tanzaku) were placed here at Disney – can you see the castle in the background? Isnt it wonderful that the Japanese cultural aspect of Tanabata is captured with the Disney theme of wishes. Yes – the tanabata wish was written on a Mickey Mouse face. It was a great way to celebrate Tanabata.
- Disney wishes and Tanabata
Finally the best of tanabata yukata at Disney – this lady with long hair and Mickey and Minnie Mouse attached to the sash!
- Yukata at Disney with Mickey Mouse charms
But it seems that I was not the only one picking up on the tanabata theme in Japan. I just read Muza-chan’s tanabata review. This blog has excellent photographs and provides a different perspective on the 2009 Tanabata celebration.
