Kyoto Baum

The Baum cake is one of the most popular types of cake in Japan. Originally it comes from Germany and its appearance looks similar to many tree rings. These rings are layers of sponge.

Due to the many rings appearance of the Baumkuchen cake, the Japanese associate it with longevity and prosperity. Therefore many Japanese people actually order baumkuchen cake for their wedding cake as well.

This particular baum cake is a Kyoto style one which is flavoured with green tea – matcha.
