The Chocolate Factory in Sapporo, Japan is a great place to spend the day with the family. Admission is about 600 yen per adult and they provide you with a sample of their yummy wafers. In fact, it is not really a chocolate factory but more like a wafer biscuit factory.
But the factory is much more than just visiting the home of the humble wafer. There is a museum of the best teacups from all around the world. They are housed in the most palatial of settings. And there is a museum of childrens toys – a lot of these toys have been private collectors items and have a heavy emphasis on Japanese favourite toys through the 1970′s and 1980′s. There is also a wonderful musical clock with dancing figurines which plays on the hour. It is very amusing for smaller kids and there is a fantastic cafe with cakes and very good hot chocolates.
You can spend a few hours at this factory because there is also a tour of the factory which is a little like Willie Wonkas! The workers are all dressed in white and the system works like clockwork.
Most favourite of all however is the cookery classes with tutors to help you make all sorts of treats. The staff were so patient with us and we all baked different things.

The teaching although in Japanese language is very easy to understand because the emphasis is on you doing the cooking. You are dressed in complete cooks uniform and it is a great way to pass an hour or so with the family.
