Election Fans Japan

Mitaka City were handing out fans to cool down voters at yesterday’s election in the Tokyo Metropolitan area. But despite the fans, the day was hot and it looked like voters wanted major change.
One voter told me – “he’d vote for anything, but the LDP.”

But this voters sentiment was a widespread feeling.
The Liberal Democratic Party suffered a heavy defeat in the Tokyo Municipal Assembly.

What does this foreshadow for Japan’s national election? Certainly, it does not bode well. Looks like by October 2009, there could be a major shake-up on Japan’s political stage. What a change this will signify considering the current party has ruled for all but 11 months of the past 53 years.
