This is a photo of Sadako who was born at the turn of last century in Hiroshima, Japan. She kept the kimonobox for many years and nobody knew the extent of the papers, photos and memorabilia that she had collected over the years. After she passed away the box sat idle for a long time and only more recently became of interest to the family.

- Sadako Toyoshima
I had always found the verbal stories told of Sadako very interesting, but at the bottom of the kimonobox was a diary that Sadako had kept since the mid-1920′s.
It told of her marriage to the second son from a sake family in Hiroshima. It told of her parents feelings towards this marriage and the couples decision to move away from Hiroshima in 1938 to try their luck in Tokyo.
I think it is fascinating to uncover stories from the past.
