Just like any other Sunday, it was relatively quiet day – apart from the small visit I needed to make to Shinjuku. A quick 20 mins down the Chuo Line, meet up with a friend, pick up some train tickets and purchase some cake for tea.
These girls are on alert
Of course, as usual Shinjuku Station was busy and a small errand turned into a day’s event. Just as well when I went to pick up my tickets the girls at the counter were on alert! At least this arm band made me smile!
Over the years, I have taken the shear numbers of people using Shinjuku station for granted. This station is one of the world’s busiest! It handles around two million passengers each day! That is a staggering number of people running similar errands to mine perhaps?
So with all those people you would expect that the station would suffer from problems with litter….. Well, the cleaners must do a good job because it seems relatively clean for that amount of traffic. Ah hah! They have the vacuum cleaner on the job – so all is good !
Get the hoover on it!
After a gruelling, epic, marathon walk around the station ….. Home for tea and cake – this was good – sort of like swiss roll without the jam?! Ushi de Can – Ushi means cow, but what is the can? Has anyone else tried this cake?
Ushi de Can
Until next time – Shinjuku Station!
Ushi de Can

Probably half cyclinrical and the cream from the cow as the filling
What do you think?
How about this for a go, Cow in the Can lol
Also it’s hard to believe that a station can handle 2 million people a day and keep it as clean as that. is some aggressive house keeping and maintaintenence, my hats off to those hard working people!

It is a lot of people – I was surprised that the vacuum is used to keep the concrete stairs clean – but it must work well to keep down the dust
