Disney Maids? Japan

The sub-culture of ‘cosplay’ – or costume role play, is well represented in Disneyland Tokyo.

This couple I snapped on camera the other day – made me smile! He is carrying her white handbag and she is dressed up as a maid for the day!

In Japan, it is not unusual to see a variety of cosplay visitors at public events such as Disney. Maid costumes, such as this, are particularly popular.

And with the increasing popularity of this subculture, a lucrative market around costuming and accessorizing has developed. I suppose it is one way to beat the recession?

My main curiosity about Japan is about the mystical Geisha. There are so many fables about such character of sexiness in the Japanese culture, that when i ask some Japanese neighbors, they blush and somehow change the conversation. They create more myth than give straight answers.
Is it just a myth that they’re trained in the highest techniques of love making or is it just hyped? Have you as a western woman being attracted to discover what’s behind that exotic myth? Would You like to fantasize about playing the role of a Geisha? Or is it a taboo subject,as there all those wild and unbelievable stories of “mother-son” incest stories that come from that mysterious land? Have you heard anything in Japan about the latter taboo? Just curious.
