The sub-culture of ‘cosplay’ – or costume role play, is well represented in Disneyland Tokyo.

This couple I snapped on camera the other day – made me smile! He is carrying her white handbag and she is dressed up as a maid for the day!

In Japan, it is not unusual to see a variety of cosplay visitors at public events such as Disney. Maid costumes, such as this, are particularly popular.

And with the increasing popularity of this subculture, a lucrative market around costuming and accessorizing has developed. I suppose it is one way to beat the recession?
