A few posts ago we looked at Hokkaidos Chocolate Factory – yummy!
This post focuses on the Royce Chocolate from Sapporo. Its one of Hokkaidos top sweets.
Its not like normal conbini or supermarket chocolate. Rather, it must be kept in the fridge and consumed rather quickly. The Japanese call it nama chocolate – which sort of means fresh or raw. I wondered what to expect the first time I tasted it but soon found out – its very creamy and soft – sort of melts in the mouth – and its quite addictive! Much more so than the usual bar of chocolate. What would Mr. Willy Wonka have thought about Royce Chocolate I wonder.

Royce Chocolate is the best Chocolate that I have ever tasted!

In fact Royce Chocolates are so addictive that there is even a dedicated fan site for the chocolate.
Its an interesting name for chocolate and one wonders whether it is a play on the words Rolls Royce which means that the chocolate can be associated with the best and perhaps on par with the royals….. I am sure I could make a thesis around this … however it might involve quite a deal of research which would not be good for the waist line.

Hello Kimonbox,
I saw your Soma Nomaoi fest photos at http://kimonobox.com/post/en/2577/horses-and-heroes-soma-nomaoi/#comments
I’m putting an article together on certain festivals in Japan for one of our annual magazines. We’d very much appreciate your permission to use one or some of them. Of course, we’d credit the photographer. May we? Please let me know at johnsono@pstripes.osd.mil
Thanks
