Ponyo's Birthday Cake

Birthday time and this year a Ponyo cake was requested by my 14 year old son!! I have been asked to make a lot of different character cakes over the years, but never a goldfish.

Dedicated to the cause, I messed around with marzipan and produced a set of Ponyo for the guys. This is the result. A few of the guys even ate the Ponyo!

Ponyo has caught on big time overseas as well as in Japan. Ponyo is the name of a princess goldfish who wants to be human and when she gets washed up on the shore, she finds a friend in a young boy who wants her to stay and become family.

This is the trailer of the movie Ponyo. Lovely animation film.

As I was loading my Ponyo Cupcakes to Flickr, I noticed another Ponyo cake. This one was truely amazing! Take a look at the flickr upload. The work that has gone into this cake is impressive. I wonder what my party of 14 year boys would have made of these fish!
