Economic Downturn – Do we still eat cake?

Cakes

The range of confectionary in Japanese supermarkets is amazing! The colours, textures and presentation – combined with the taste – is such temptation. And yet it is also well known that the Japanese people are not a race that is obese – in fact, far from it…. the popular book Japanese Women Don’t Get Old or Fat provides a persuasive argument to this observation.

But how do they stay slim – surrounded with so much choice? And with the economic dowturn are the Japanese still eating cake?

Perhaps the secret to staying slim is discipline? And is cake still selling in Japan? It appears so. In fact, a recent edition of the Nikkei Shinbun reported that despite the economic downturn, sales of confectionary are increasing. And thats good news for the cake makers! The choice will go on.
