Eimi has always enjoyed dressing up in kimono. This is a picture of her with Obaachan putting on tabi or special socks that allow her to then put on Japanese wooden sandals called geta. Obaachan is a kimono dressing teacher. It takes a lot of time to learn how to put kimono on and dress other people.
- Kimono is something that takes time to dress up in
This kimono still lives in the kimonobox. It has a lovely smell to it when it is taken out of the drawer. The children think it smells like ‘old Japan’. I am not sure exactly what ‘old Japan’ was supposed to smell like but it is a nostalgic smell.
When we have finished with the kimono it must be carefully folded back into the right creases and placed in its special paper. Obaachan is very particular about how it gets put away.
