Japanese Festival, Dango

I have looked at ‘fairground’ food before at Kimonobox.

The cucumber on sticks brought a lot of interesting comments.

But these giant dango were really grand and very popular on the weekend at the Mitaka Matsuri.

They cost 300 yen each and brought a fairground atmosphere to the small festival centered around the local shrine.

Also popular was okonomiyaki

There was a great smell of soya sauce permeating the night air. Lovely!

It was a fantastic atmosphere that typifies a Japanese summer!

Finished off by a quick prayer at the local temple – had to queue to pray of course – but it is all part of the experience.
