The Mitaka Matsuri was great. This is the final of 3 posts published about the natsu-matsuri event held over the weekend.
- Close up of the phoenix
On display at the Mitaka matsuri was the mikoshi, or portable Shinto shrine.
Mikoshi which are often rectangle in shape, can resemble a miniature building, with pillars, walls, a roof, a veranda and even a railing. This is the type of Mikoshi that was on display in Mitaka.
It is lavishly decorated in gold and the carving of a phoenix is placed on the roof.
Around the railings you can see gifts offered to the gods.

What else can you see? Rice cakes, umeboshi, sake?
