I wanted to post about one of the popular kids stories that we reading at the moment because the characters are so unusual to my mind.
It is the story of the green beans, peas and peanuts.
It find it fascinating what other cultures create as characters for kids story time. I am sure that I have not seen a story book in English talking about these kind of vegetables and nuts. Have you?
This is a lovely tale and one that I recommend if you have young kids and read Japanese.
- The Story of Sora Mame's Day
It is a story that also has a playboard to purchase and play out the drama with the cut out characters as well!
- You can play with the beans and peas in a paper house!
It is a really innovative idea and cost around 2,000 yen. It has been well worth the money spent. Mind you the swing in the house doesnt let the cut out characters sit on it very evenly …. this has caused some frustrations!
- This is the peanut house!
Another clip from the story – all the beans and the peanut in a pond of dandelion!
- Friendship!
Cute story – great idea!

Anybody else reading soramame? Very popular here http://bit.ly/QVvrB
