Respect-for-the-Aged Day (Keiro no hi) has been a national holiday since 1966.
- Having fun with the garden brush across generations
No doubt the Japanese media will be focusing on the various activities for the older generation and highlighting the eldest Japanese people in the country. Japan’s has a huge demographic challenge with its aging population. Something that was not obvious back in 1966 when the celebration was first introduced.
We have our own memories of Respect for the Aged Day – Keiro no Hi!
It is a good holiday to have! But this year, the holiday for Respect for the Aged has been followed by Autumnal Equinox Day on Wednesday, and the Kokumin-no-Kyujitsu holiday added between them on Tuesday.
Due to Japanese law, which stipulates that if there is only one non-holiday in between two public holidays, that day should become an additional holiday, this week has become silver week!
A lot of people will be on the road, on train and travelling by air to take advantage of this national holiday – sounds like a silver rush to me!

First you had golden week and now you have silver week. That sure is a lot of holidays to celebrate.^_^
But it is grat that all generations are represented. Have fun and be careful on the roads.
Plus the weekend, five days.
Sounds like an enjoyable week there.
Is the weather still hot in Japan ?
