Ever wondered what happens to the conbini food that doesnt get sold by the use by date?
It is estimated tht Japan manages to throw out about 20 million tonnes of food waste a year! Think of all those leftover sandwiches and rice balls!!
In 2007, 7-11 stores agreed to implement a compost system to recycle food waste from around 14 percent of its stores. Collaboration with Agri Gaia, a food waste recycling company means that the compost is turned into animal feed. 7-11 and Ito Yokado have even started selling watermelons and spinach grown out of the compost made from the group’s waste food products.
Are you doing ‘your bit’ for recycling the environment?

http://kimonobox.com/2009/10/shaped-watermelon-japan/ I wonder what the next shape will be. And for that price they had better be seedless. another thing if you want your watermelon sweeter when you eat it , sprinkle salt on it.

Salt on watermelon – yes that’s what we do too. It does the job! Good comment.
