Did you know that Misora Hibari is one of the most commerically successful musical artists in the world?

I was introduced to the singing of Misora Hibari in the late via my in-laws. They went to great lengths to explain that this lady was an inspiration to the post-war era in Japan. Her stage name, they translated means ‘Beautiful Skylark.’

Today, her songs are being released with new vitality and her popularity and wonderful voice lives on. I suppose it is like many amazing artists, consumer demand can be greater following their death!

One of her most famous songs is “Kawa no nagare no yōni” and in a national poll by NHK taken in 1997, the song was voted the greatest Japanese song of all time!

Any thoughts on Misora Hibari? Any fans out there?

There is an official website for Hibari Misora. It is mainly in Japanese and the online store is for Japanese residents only which is a shame but there are some key details in English for those interested in finding out more about Misora Hibari.
