- Tsukimi Udon!
Tsukimi udon make a great lunch. Tsukimi means moon viewing in Japanese. It is said that the egg resembles the full moon in this dish. You can also order full moon soba if you prefer!
The tsukimi noddles are not necessarily a food reserved for moon viewing. But the association of the egg and the full moon has meant that the name has ‘stuck’.
During autumn, however, McDonald’s (in Japan) has picked up on the association of the moon viewing season and sells tsukimi burgers – these are hamburgers with fried egg fillings.
I love the way that nature filters through in such a positive way to Japanese food concepts.

Wow, that’s a lot of protein in that burger! 0___0 In non-moonviewing seasons, the tsukimi burger could probably be used as a body-builder’s health supplement… 0____0;
The noodles look tastier. ^^ (Although I’m wondering if the egg is cooked? If not, is there not much risk of salmonella in Japan or something?
Maybe the hot water of the cooking noodles makes it safe? I sure would like to know, but I’m not sure who would know that…
It looks tasty enough to risk it, though, anyway. ^^; )

If that sandwich was sold over here, it would be considered a breakfast sandwich called an egg McMuffin, the only thing is that it’s on a Hamburger bun. The burger looks yummy though. Nom, Nom, Nom.
