In other words, someone who was born and raised in Tokyo to parents, who were also born and raised in Tokyo.

Edo was renamed Tokyo in 1869 and residents of Tokyo are often referred to as ‘Edokko’. It is a term that I have known since I first started living in Tokyo in 1989.
Later I also realised that the word Edokko has implied personality traits …. that can be described as straightforward, but assertive, cheerful and even noisy and street smart with money.
