These are our favourite cakes! Have you tried one before?
Rather sweet but very delicious!!
The kids often leave the chestnut in the middle but for me that is the best bit!!
The Mont Blanc cake is usually made with a sponge cake base and covered with whipped cream and then piped with pureed chestnuts. My kids think this bit looks like soba – noodles.
Mont Blanc cakes are really popular in Japan. They are also quite big as far as cakes go and I am always full after I have eaten one. The kids however can often eat two in one go!!!

RT @kimonobox Mt Blanc Cakes http://ow.ly/1p5pRB You’ve piqued my curiousity what are these? I’ll offer my 2 cents worth. They looks like a mound of noodles with an egg yoke on top. Are these made locally or just for special occasions. You’ve gotten my seet tooths attention. Send 1 my way and I’ll be your overseas food critic
Thanks for commenting – you are right I should have explained a bit more about the Mt. Blanc
Yes the mound of noodles with an egg yoke on top is a great description and my family often call them soba cakes! Actually they are far removed from the bland taste of soba and very sweet …. I think you would like them! The sponge is usually totally swamped by cream and piped chestnut and it is a challenge to eat them with finesse ! Well I manage but the kids just dive in !!
