The debate over Japan’s ability to resume normal military status is fired up. In just a few days time the North Koreans have vowed to launch a ballistic missile. Japan is primed with battleships and Patriot missile interrceptors off the northern coast ready to shoot down any rocket debris that could potentially fall over the area. It is a stark reminder of the dangers that lie within the North East Asian security region. It is also a reminder of the need for Japan to demonstrate military leadership and regional responsibility.
And with this constant and increasing security reminder, there is perhaps, a subliminal message also emerging through Japanese popular culture. The McDonalds fast food chain in Japan have launched their own timely rocket!
Check it out kids! With the happy meal comes the Doraemon FuwaFuwa Rocket and other gadgets to equip Doraemon for any attack.
The question is, are there some synergies between the themed meal and regional security politics? Probably not but it was an interesting discussion over the happy meal lunch.
