Plum Rain – what a great way of describing the climate in June in Japan. The rainy season is called this because most parts of Japan experience the rainy season during the time that plums ripen! There are also other symbols of the rainy season – the Hydrangea and the Irises are beautiful at this time of year.

One thing that was not so beautiful however was the strange occurence of tadpole and even fish rain, that has baffled many Japanese and foreigners alike! The Asahi newspaper reported the appearance of fish rain in Ishikawa with the above small fish raining down from above.

Whilst in Kanazawa witnesses discovered hundreds of dead tadpoles measuring 2-3 centimetres long. That’s a little creepy!
