The Yakult drink has become quite a global phenomena! It has even been the subject of many innovative ways of consumption. There is ice-cream Yakult and Yakult as a froth for beer. I wonder what the founder of this yogurt drink would have thought about the many different ways many people enjoy Yakult.

Simply Yakult

Japan’s Yakult drink was first created by Minoru Shirota who started manufacturing and selling Yakult in 1935. Since that time, the Yakult has become a popular drink all over the world. And its a regular item on our grocery list!

In Japan, deliveries on Yakult can be made by bike or you can buy them in the supermarket.

Its a great drink and it is a probiotic. This means that it can help some common bowel and gastro-intestinal conditions.

A study published in 1994 (Tanaka et al.) found that ingestion of Lactobacillus casei Shirota increases beneficial bacteria (bifidobacteria) and decreases harmful bacteria (enterobacteriaceae).

Great news! You can even buy a light version of Yakult if you are counting calories!

The branding for Yakult, has not changed in design for years. This has not impacted on its global appeal. It appears that Yakult has become a staple drink for Japan and perhaps in other parts of the world.

This kitty-kat knows the benefits of Yakult. This photo was a little surprising but we are not the only ones who enjoy Yakult. I wonder if Yakult is good for the cat’s gut too….!

What was even more surprising was the photo of beer with Yakult froth – that has to be only in Japan!

Whilst I am not sure about the taste of the Yakult Beer – I do think that the flavour of Yakult as an ice-cream could be quite nice. It certinaly looks enticing!
