<p><!--:en-->One of my favourite things in the kimonobox has been a <a href="http://kimonobox.com/2009/05/japanese-miniatures/">miniature tea house</a> I featured in a post in May. This miniature came in a kit and took an afternoon of glue and patience ( and nimble fingers) to assemble. It was a lot of fun to make and very rewarding. So many readers asked about the kit and where to purchase similar types of miniatures.</p>
<dl id="attachment_4125" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 485px"><dt><a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B000R3JOAW?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=kimonobox-22&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=247&#038;creative=7399&#038;creativeASIN=B000R3JOAW"><img src="http://kimonobox.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/getashop-1.jpg" alt="Beautiful shop of shoes" title="getashop-1" width="280" height="280" class="size-full wp-image-4125" /></a></dt><dd class="wp-caption-text">Beautiful shop of shoes</dd></dl>
<p>So I was quite pleased to find this miniature kit that was for sale &#8230; for those interested, through amazon.</p>
<p>It looks so beautiful and unique. I think I will order one and work on it for a gift for my daughter for Xmas perhaps. What an unusual gift &#8211; a homemade Japanese shoe shop!</p>
<p>Here is another view of the miniature shop.</p>

<p><!--:en-->Recycling to create furniture with the kimono fabric is a great idea. Kimono would typically have been taken apart for washing in the past and then re-sewn. It was a very expensive exercise.</p>
<p>So it is interesting today that the kimono material is not always being re-worked into traditional clothing but taking on different forms as well.</p>
<dl id="attachment_3986" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 485px"><dt><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42284341@N03/3949001547/"><img src="http://kimonobox.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/3949001547_b7d900b516_o.jpg" alt="My kind of chair" title="Armchair" width="566" height="600" class="size-full wp-image-3986" /></a></dt><dd class="wp-caption-text">My kind of chair</dd></dl>
<p>For example, this kimono chair which I came across on the weekend has incorporated traditional materials into a funky design! I really liked the design and fabric used! I wonder if the chair is comfortable? I wonder also how easy it is to keep the kimono fabric clean?</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have to always make larger recycle versions &#8211; this mini armchair in kimono fabric is also lovely &#8211; designed by Dolly Alice! And with dolls using the chair easy to keep clean no doubt!</p>
<dl id="attachment_3985" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 485px"><dt><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/alicesweet/3624736869/"><img src="http://kimonobox.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/3624736869_f62f6ff468_o-11.jpg" alt="Have you ever tried making miniatures?" title="Armchair" width="528" height="600" class="size-full wp-image-3985" /></a></dt><dd class="wp-caption-text">Have you ever tried making miniatures?</dd></dl>
<p>It you are not into covering your armchair with kimono fabric, how about working with a wall hanging design?<br />
This gives a very modern look to the room. What are your thoughts? Would you hang this at your place?</p>
<dl id="attachment_3989" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 485px"><dt><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/originalhairypotter/3049275520/"><img src="http://kimonobox.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/3049275520_93b656de59_b.jpg" alt="Maybe a wall hanging instead of a chair" title="Kimono" width="600" height="450" class="size-full wp-image-3989" /></a></dt><dd class="wp-caption-text">Maybe a wall hanging instead of a chair</dd></dl>
<p>The kimono is a versatile concept!<br />
Have you got a piece of furniture that is inspired by the kimono at your place?<!--:--></p>

<p><img src="http://www.kimonobox.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/dsc03511.jpg" alt="House Miniature Japan" title="House Miniature Japan" width="540" height="446" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-337" /></p>
<p>The kids great-Grandad Sugiyama used to have a sweet shop in Hongo San Chome. Natsukashii! So little things like the dango placed on the mat out the front of the shop and the black cat with his welcoming paw are lovely to see!</p>
<p>But truthfully this particular design reminds me more of the kind of buildings that can be found in <a href="http://www.xs4all.nl/~daikoku/junrei/reijo/50-ban.htm">Jindaiji</a>, in Chofu-city, Western Tokyo.</p>
<p><img src="http://www.kimonobox.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/dsc03513.jpg" alt="dsc03513" title="dsc03513" width="540" height="349" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-339" /></p>
<p>The miniature dango or dumplings are placed outside the shop. Its a great Japanese snack from yesteryear that is still quite popular today.</p>
<p><img src="http://www.kimonobox.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/dsc03515.jpg" alt="dsc03515" title="dsc03515" width="540" height="286" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-348" /></p>
<p>Jindaiji also has a temple which is one of the oldest in Tokyo and certainly <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/junku/sets/416449/comments/">worth a visit</a>. There are old fashioned Japanese shops and restaurants. A beautiful red bridge and lovely o-manju. The soba is particularly well-known in this area and worth the wait. Lovely spot to take the kids and pretend that you are back in olden Japan, when you are still in busy, crazy Tokyo.</p>
